Arroyo pals all-out for Teodoro

MANILA, Philippines–While President Macapagal-Arroyo has stayed away from the rallies of administration standard-bearer Gilbert Teodoro, her corps of women supporters will be barnstorming markets to campaign for him.
After mounting a fundraiser for Teodoro at the Manila Polo Club in January, the women’s advocacy group Mahal Ko Bayan Ko is kicking off tomorrow a tour of public markets in Metro Manila to drum up support for Teodoro, Ms Arroyo’s former secretary of defense.
The group stood behind Ms Arroyo in July 2005 when she faced escalating calls to step down over charges of electoral fraud in the “Hello Garci” wiretapping scandal.
“We want to help Gibo get elected as our president. As our name suggests, our main objective is to promote love of country. We want the best that we can get elected to the presidency. We believe it’s Gibo,” chair Evelyn Kilayko said by phone Friday night.
Ms Arroyo and Teodoro have not shared a stage since the President proclaimed Teodoro and his running mate Edu Manzano at the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD convention in November last year. TJ Burgonio
