LIBERAL PARTY (LP) PRESIDENtial candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is open to an alliance with the Mangudadatu clan of Shariff Kabunsuan but is absolutely not thinking of tying up with another Maguindanao warlord clan, the Ampatuans.
In a press conference in Tupi, South Cotabato, Aquino said that a member of the Mangudadatu clan approached him when he arrived at the airport Saturday morning to discuss a possible alliance with the LP.
“Our discussion was not extensive but we have agreed to let our people discuss the matter. The mayors in his province are urging me to strike an alliance with them (the Mangudadatus),” Aquino said.
The Mangudadatus are currently allied with Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard-bearer Gilbert Teodoro, who was quick to throw his support behind the clan after some members were killed in what is now known as the Maguindanao massacre.
The Mangudadatus are battling the Ampatuans for supremacy in Maguindanao and the rest of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The Ampatuans are the main suspects in the Maguindanao massacre.
Aquino said he did not want to presume that they would agree to an alliance that would give him a foothold in the ARMM.
When asked if he was open to a tie-up with the Ampatuans, Aquino said he had absolutely shut the door on making a pact with the suspected murderers of 57 individuals last November. Gil C. Cabacungan Jr.
