MANILA, Philippines – Bagumbayan standard-bearer Sen. Richard Gordon called on voters yesterday to choose the best candidate for president and not just settle for the “lesser of two evils.”
“An election is an exercise in democracy,” he said. “Dapat mag-isip-isip tayo (We should think about it) so we can have the best. It does not have to be the lesser of two evils.”
Speaking over radio Wednesday night, Gordon said democracy is not just for the rich and powerful.
“I tell the Filipino people, this is your country,” he said. “I am not asking you to vote for me. If not me, vote for the best.”
Gordon said win or lose, he ran for the presidency to give voters an alternative choice.
He urged voters to scrutinize the track records of those seeking the presidency and not be swayed by the results of pre-election surveys.
Gordon said he is not engaged in “character assassination” against presidential candidates Sen. Benigno Aquino III of the Liberal Party and Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. of the Nacionalista Party.
He is just asking questions of the so-called front liners in the surveys, he added.
