Philippines 'surprised' by HK travel advisory

The Strait Times wrote:

HE Philippines expressed surprise on Monday after Hong Kong warned its residents against travelling to the country because of possible terror attacks.

The ‘black’ travel advisory came despite other countries lowering the severity of similar warnings issued last month over terror attack fears in the Philippines, foreign ministry spokesman Eduardo Malaya said.

‘We find it surprising that this updating of Hong Kong’s black travel advisory comes at a time when a number of Manila-based foreign embassies have lowered their travel alerts,’ Mr Malaya said in a statement.

Yes, politics and anger and frustration with the way things were handled on the bus hijacking. The US has had travel warnings out for years regarding Mindanao. The threats there are very real and very tangible. My house had uninvited NPA houseguests. They were looking for me, but I had fortunately departed for a saner place.

Can you imagine the uproar Hong Kongese would express if a second incident occured and the government had NOT issues this advisory?

I really think this is all Politics. Donald Tsang is a traditional politician after all.

Hong Kong security bureau just released BLACK TRAVEL ADVISORY — advise to discourage all travel to the Philippines, which is entering its traditional peak December to February tourism season when many Hong Kong tourists visit. The advisory cites ‘the risk of possible terrorist attacks in Manila, including places frequented by foreigners’.

Will PresNoynoy have a press conference (or maybe even send a letter) to question Beijing or HongKong intelligence over this TRAVEL ADVISORY?

[Hey!!! Maybe the message is HongKong and Beijing telling Malacanang that Oslo boycott is not enough. ]
