Smart announces new, faster mobile broadband

Smart Communications announced that it will demo its new mobile broadband network on the island of Boracay this week. The company is poised to make public its deployment of Long Term Evolution (LTE). The technology promises to bring mobile Internet users in the Philippines into the world of 4G.

Smart promises that its new network will offer up to 50Mbps download, with a theoretical 100MBps speed. Price for Smart’s LTE Evolution have not been released.

On December 2010 the International Telecommunications Union sent a press release on “Focus on international regulations for spectrum management and satellite orbits,” saying that only “LTE-Advanced,” and “WirelessMAN-Advanced” are from a technical point of view, considered, “4G.”
