Vidal: End Church-Palace dialogue on RH bill, it’s futile

Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal Monday said further talks between the Catholic Church and Malacañang on the reproductive health (RH) bill would be futile since President Benigno Aquino III had made up his mind on the controversial issue.

“If he has already such a decision, what is the dialogue for? I don’t see any point for the dialogue,” the recently retired prelate said over Church-run Radio Veritas. “When you are into a dialogue, there should be no stand yet, but with the stand that they have already made, there’s no need for it.”

Viewed by the Church as a measure that would promote the use of condoms and abortion, the pending bill has divided the overwhelmingly Catholic country.

Bishop says CBCP has already made up its mind, so CBCP has no need to go into dialogue — not with the media, not with Iglesia ni Kristo, not with Malakaniyang,. CBCP has already made up its mind so CBCP has no need to go into dialogue and just to order around with the Roman Catholics of Pilipinas.

What the Bishop and the CBCPcan do is simple. Remind Noynoy that the CBCP can deny a Catholic marriage inside Manila Cathedral or Sanctuario de San Antonio for Noynoy, or deny annulments, or deny baptism to nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren. Eh di taob na si Noyinoy (also Noynoy’s BFF’s and circle of advisers)

  • This bishop seems to think that you cannot have a dialogue if each side has already taken a position on the issue. Let me just point out that the different positions already taken by each side is the ultimate reason why a dialogue is necessary in the first place. If his goal is to stop the RH bill and not to compromise on its provisions then, a dialogue would really be fruitless.
