USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) was recently in Manila with her Carrier Air Wing for a four day, routine port call, and goodwill visit. Philippine President Noynoy Aquino visited the Aircraft carrier, with Rear Admiral Samuel Perez, Commander of Carrier Strike Group 1 showing the Chief Executive around the Carrier.

The President also met with many Filipino American sailors onboard Carl Vinson.

Carl Vinson is the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 1, based in San Diego.  She is named for a Georgian Congressman. Carl Vinson is the 3rd Nimitz-class nuclear powered supercarrier.  

Discussing flight operations

Carl Vinson was the US Navy ship where the terrorist and Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s body was taken by United States Seal Team 6. The ship accorded Osama bin Laden Muslim rites for the dead before dumping the body to sea.
