Schools welcome 25.7 million students for school year 2011-2012

The new school year opens. The Department of Education said they are ready to welcome 25.7 million students. 22.05 million of which, are in the public school system.

Those in high school account for 7.73 million. Public schools will welcome 5.85 million high school students, with 1.88 million in private schools. Of the 25.7 million school kids, 15.47 million will be going to elementary school. Of that number, 14.25 million will be in public schools, and 1.22 million in private schools.

The Department of Education released information that 1.93 million kindergarden school children will trooping to class this year.

The Department of Education also organized the Oplan Balik Eskwela campaign. This is a program that ties up school security forces to ensure the safety of school going children. The Department of Education also noted that the OBE-Information and Action Center Task Force has been setup to address common problems.

“Our measures are not only geared towards the opening of classes but also to enjoin parents to send their children to school.”, DepED Secretary Arman Luistro said.
