The Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) has expressed disappointment over the decision of the Department of Interior and Local Government to approve the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) procurement plan for 2011 which favors imported fire trucks over locally made ones.
FIS secretary general Oral Pagayon said the inventors were disappointed at Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo’s rejection of a proposal to acquire 160 Philippine-made fire trucks.
Robredo instructed the BFP to shop for imported fire trucks even if these are not only difficult to maintain but also expensive to repair as spare parts are also imported.
Earlier, the House committee on good government came up with a resolution urging that preference be given to Filipino-made fire trucks as long as all technical standards are met.
