Villar files bill to benefit mobile users

A SENATE bill has been filed that will allow mobile users to retain their numbers when switching to another service provider or mode of mobile account.

Senator Manuel B. Villar, Jr. filed on June 2, Senate Bill 2864 or the Mobile Telephone Number Portability Act of 2011, which will give mobile subscribers the option to retain their numbers even if they switch to another mobile service provider or when changing the mode of mobile account meaning from postpaid to prepaid, and vice versa.

The proposal, Mr. Villar said, will sustain competition among service providers and will promote improvement of the quality of mobile telephone service in the Philippines.

“Consumers who want to have better quality of telephone service are often deterred by the burden of [having to change] their number… or switching from a postpaid to a prepaid account,” he wrote.
