Last June 8, 2011, Crocs and Habitat For Humanity formalized their partnership during the opening of Crocs’ yearly Mega Sale. Helton O. Tan, business development head of Crocs Philippines, handed over their donation of P180,000 to David Bonafacio, Board of Trustees member of Habitat. Mr. Tan said that Crocs Philippines decided to partner with Habitat for Humanity because the company believes in the organization’s vision which is to provide an affordable home for everyone. The P180,000 is enough to build 2 homes but that more will be donated to the organization this year as per their M.O.A.
Mr. Bonafacio said that their current projects are in Calauan, Laguna, Pasig and Malabon. I asked Mr. Bonifacio why Habitat sells the home to the impoverished instead of just donating it, he answered that families feel more pride when they work hard towards acquiring their homes. Families also take better care of the homes because of the sacrifices they made for it. Habitat has made 34,000 homes all over the Philippines as of this writing but their goal is to make 10,000 homes every year.
