The United States has given the Philippines until July 3 to “remove” from its territory former Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino or forfeit the chance to get him.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima saw the urgency to hasten the extradition of Aquino, one of the suspects in the murders of veteran publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, as the US Department of Justice (DoJ) had given the Philippine government a deadline to “remove” the former police officer from the US after the US Court of Appeals denied his appeal to stop his extradition.
Monday, De Lima ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to immediately bring Aquino, a former aide of Sen. Panfilo Lacson, back to the country after the United States Department of Justice (US-DoJ) had given the green light for his extradition to the Philippines.
“There’s already a go-signal from the United States so I ordered NBI Director (Magtanggol Gatdula) to prepare for the immediate extradition of Aquino since we only got until July 3 to do so,” De Lima added.
