Palace: GMA did not leave a flood control program

Palace spokesperson @Abi_Valte wrote on her twitter, “9 years of GMA in office and yet wala kaming inabutang flood control plan. nagkandahilo na si Chairman Tolentino sa kakahanap pero wala.” She goes on to let @mitosmagsaysay know that it takes longer than six months to implement flood control plans because there is a need to upgrade and repair infrastructure.

  • For once, I agree with the sentiment that the blame shouldn’t be pinned entirely on GMA for the flooding. Still, here’s the thing. Back in Sept. 2010, all 17 mayors of Metro Manila signed the ‘Estero Declaration’ along with the MMDA, wherein they all pledge and commit to protect and clean-up Metro Manila’s waterways, precisely in preparation for potential flooding during the rainy seasons. Why, then, are lawmakers criticizing the President for something that is the duty and responsibility of the local chief executives?

Consider also that flooding is rooted on issues that have to do with more than just flood controls. Contributory problems include informal settling along creeks and waterways, improper garbage disposal, lack of urban planning, even urbanization itself contributes to flooding problems. These are local issues that ought to be dealt with by local officials – local officials that include members of Congress, who have the funds available for infrastructure projects, urban poor relocation, canal/creek dredging, and garbage disposal.

So, again I ask, why pin the blame on the President, past or present, when the responsibility clearly lies elsewhere?

  • Thai anton

So ,it’s GMA responsibility for the flooding now ? and not Pnoy ? Who is the President NOW ? GMA ?

    • KG

This only turned into another Gma vs Pnoy blaming game because Valte is a palace spokesperson and Magsaysay is a so called GMA proxy, but I agree with Raggster that this(flood control) is a local government issue among other issues he mentioned.

  • Thai anton

Who is holding the ball now ? GMA or Pnoy abnoy ?

    • Bert

I know of only one ball…the SC’s ball, and I know who’s holding it, :).

nly 21% of enrolled beneficiaries of PhilHealth were from the poor! . . .Sino yung 79%?

Ti-nrabaho ba ng Noynoy Administration ang PhilHealth? Ano na ngayon — 25% of enrolled beneficiaries PhilHealth are from POOR?

Ano ang target for January 2012?

          • UP nn grad

Maraming pogi-points when Presi-Noynoy makes a presentation to Congress on how Pilipinas will raise P50Billion to do flood-control projects for NCR (and parts of Central Luzon), and the top three items that the P50Billion will be spent. [I bet the presentation can easily include mention of hundreds (or thousands) of jobs that will be created.]

Sana, Presi-Noynoy does this presentation to Congress before his second SONA. .

  • Thai anton

Google Dr.Frisco Nilo former Pag Asa Chief. And see if I am making it up.

    • GabbyD

yeah, thats the only part of your original comment that makes sense.

  • Thai anton

Valte was the one who tweeted the Vietnamese wine suck , when Pnoy
    visits Vietnam.

    • KG

Nope, the one who tweeted that was Mislang

      • GabbyD

i dont if he’s just wrong, or deliberately making stuff up.

  • Thai anton

Dr. Frisco Nilo former head of Pag Asa, he was made to resign by Pnoy
Abnoy for failing to forecast or manipulating weather data rain in metro Manila 2010. So now there is no more flooding .

    • GabbyD

you are just making stuff up now huh?

    • UP nn grad

Siguro naman, alam ni Valte that Falcon is their warning.

  • Thai anton

Ha ha,you guys been there a year and just found out that there’s no flood control program? How many times did it flood since last year ? Didn’t Pnoy
Abnoy fired the Pagasa chief because of flooding ? Who you kidding. ? Grow up. It’s about the fingers point at you.

    • UP nn grad

Naghahanap ako ng old news releases where Ramos blamed his predecessor about baha sa Maynila. Or GMA blaming Erap or GMA blaming Ramos. When you find one, can you post the link?

      • Bert

what I found, UP n, is Obama blaming Bush for Katrina.

        • UP nn grad

That’s probably because you are in California or in Texas, Bert. Googling from USA returns more USA-specific data events.

Someone has to do the search of Pinas Malacanang-blame-games from metro-Manila to find the results. MLQ3 would in fact know the answer — MLQ3 was a GMA-insider during GMA’s first years.

          • UP nn grad

surely, GuLLO-and-her-team was as bitchy as Noynoy-and-BFF’s // surely GuLLO-and-team was blaming problems on Erap and Ramos. Your search-engine must be poor, bert.

        • Bert

The point, UP n, is, if Obama, who is the president of the USA, can blame Bush for Katrina, surely Valte has as much right too to blame Guuulor-Yaa for Ondoy, right? This is a democratic country with equal rights to everyone, right?

    • GabbyD

      “Didn’t Pnoy
Abnoy fired the Pagasa chief because of flooding ?”

      NO.

      • vampire22
