The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Monday apologized for the pain that the “PCSO fund mess” involving some prelates have brought to the faithful.
“We are sorry for the pain and sadness that these events have brought upon you,” said CBCP President and Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar.
“There is no doubt that everywhere in the Church there is great sorrow. We, your pastors, are one with you,” he added.
Malacañang welcomed the CBCP and said that it is open to working with its new leadership for the common good.
“That’s a very welcome statement from the part of CBCP,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said Monday in a press briefing.
Odchimar said the bishops are particularly saddened that many of the faithful – the youth, the poor, and Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) – have been confused because of the apparent inconsistency of our actions with our pastoral preaching.
