THE new agency that has replaced the Commission on Information and Communication Technology will be a leaner, meaner and more proactive office that will ensure the local industry will remain competitive in the global market, Science Secretary Mario Montejo said.
The new body, the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO), has been placed under the Department of Science and Technology under Executive Order No. 47.
The ICTO, formerly under the Office of the President, is the country’s primary policy and regulating body on information and communications technology.
The former commission was created in 2004 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo before the creation of a Department of Information and Communications Technology.
