Why ProPinoy was down

Dear Reader

For more than 12 hours yesterday, ProPinoy servers were flooded by requests for the article “The Very Sad State of Manila Zoo” (mirror site).  It was a piece by Karen Ang on the condition of animals in the Manila Zoo.  At one point we were able to hold out against the torrent, but it was pretty clear midway through the “crisis” that our infrastructure couldn’t keep up.  It was a constant redline.   It also knocked down sites that were running beside ProPinoy.

We made twitter trend, apparently.  We were retweeted over 800 times.

It was a very nice problem to have.

We shall endeavor to improve our server infrastructure.

Best regards,

Cocoy,
Editor-in-Chief
