The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has arrested 30 women posing as widows of retired policemen to be able to claim police pension checks.
Police Director Samuel Pagdilao, Jr., CIDG chief, said the women were arrested while waiting for their applications for the benefits to be processed at the annex building of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) in Camp Crame, the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters.
“They have been involved in this modus operandi for months and that the PNP has lost an estimated P1.5 million a month to these fake claimants of police retirement benefits,” said Pagdilao.
He said the racket was discovered following the arrest of Nenita Guevarra Parazo, who claimed to be a widow of SPO4 Nicanor Parazo. Police found that the woman has been using a fake fictitious personal identification card while claiming a pension check.
“The subsequent investigation revealed that the real name of the one who claimed the widow of Parazo was Corazon Daguman Galicia. The arrest of Galicia has also led to the arrests of the other suspects, said Pagdilao.
