THE Energy Regulatory Commission is sticking to its December 26 target for implementing open access and retail competition in the power industry.
Francis Saturnino C. Juan, ERC executive director, said the six-month preparation period should be enough for the industry players to make the necessary preparations for a competitive retail electricity market.
“ERC has declared that the open access and retail competition be implemented on December 26. It should start with the implementation,” he said.
“In the decision of the commission, it took note of several other issues that need to be addressed before the actual implementation, and also the other requisites like IT and infrastructure,” he added.
The regulator said last May that full operation of the competitive retail electricity market will start by December 26.
