95 reported dead as Tropical Storm Sendong Strikes Northern Mindanao (update 1)

AsiaWorks television reported that Tropical Storm has killed at least 95 60 people in Northern Mindanao, Philippines, with more expected as the missing are rising. Cagayan de Oro City’s head of rescue team, Lemuel Gunda has reported casualties. Iligan has been placed on State of National Emergency, with over 95 bodies recovered in Cagayan de Oro City.

According to Abigail Valte, Palace Deputy Spokesperson, the Department of Social Welfare and Development has opened 10 evacuation centers in Cagayan de Oro City. Relief packs are expected to arrive in Iligan by this afternoon and that both the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines have been mobilized to deploy search and rescue.

@mindanaoan reported that volunteers are needed at the Cagayan de Oro Department of Social Welfare and Development along Masterson Road. Volunteers are tasked to repack and deliver relief goods. Interested, call 09066150095.
