Why Tacloban Mayor Romualdez had not received Yolanda funds is a lie

Lacson: Romualdez’ persistent statements Tacloban had not received funds from national government was a lie

●      In a speech during the anniversary of Yolanda, Secretary Panfilo Lacson said that Romualdez’ persistent statements that Tacloban has not received any funds from the national government was a lie. The city had already been given P230.7M in cash by DILG for the repair of gov’t centers as requested, but Mayor Romualdez changed his mind and wanted to realign the budget, leaving the fund’s status floating. His reason for requesting the funds and then requesting to realign it after receiving the funds can be considered questionable.

●      According to Secretary Lacson, Romualdez came to him in January 2014 to help ask DBM to advance 3 months’ worth of Tacloban’s IRA to sustain the operations of the local government. Secretary Abad agreed and even offered to advance up to 6 months. However, when Lacson came back to Romualdez, the latter rejected the deal.
