biodegradable plastic for film packaging

Asteroid named after Filipino Miguel Arnold Reyes

Miguel Arnold Reyes won second grand award in the recently concluded International Science, and Engineering Fair held in Los Angeles, California. He wrote a research paper that looked for alternatives in making biodegradable plastic for film packaging in cornstarch. In case you were wondering, the title of his work was “Synthesis, and Characterization of Composite Plastics from Thermoplastic Starch, and Nano-sized Calcium Phosphate for Film Packaging.” Reyes was a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) merit scholar.

Fourth place went to another Filipino, Angeli Joyce Dy. According to ABS-CBN, her work was on “milkfish serum as alternative media supplement for culture of human lung (A549) and colon (HCT 116) carcinomas.”
